Carriers need to increase use of Internet for recruiting

The Internetīs role is growing in how truck drivers seek and apply for work, but many trucking organizations fail to take advantage of this trend.
With turnover among truck drivers at a near all-time high of 116 percent and the industry in need of 82,000 new hires every year through 2010, finding enough good drivers is pivotal to business success.
In a recent poll at the American Trucking Associationīs HR and Safety Conference, Unicru, the leading provider of Total Workforce Acquisition solutions, found that most trucking companies overwhelmingly use the same recruiting strategies that they did 25 years ago, with newspaper advertising at 28 percent and employee referrals at 21 percent topping the list as the most commonly used recruiting sources. Only 9 percent of responding companies listed the company Web site as a īmost commonly used recruiting source.ī
US demographics are changing and so is the face of trucking. As of 2004, according to the Department of Labor, 25 percent of drivers came from a minority group and the average driver age continues to escalate. These new drivers are turning to the Internet and Trucking company websites as a way to apply for work, as it beats the time consuming process of filling in paper forms.
If you are a carrier with a website that accepts driver applications, Lorenzo International will post a link to your website. Please contact us with your website address and information for available driver positions.
